Custom LEGO Options: Official, Studios, Compatible Bricks — 2026 Taiwan Guide
Search for "custom LEGO" and the results are a mess: there are official services, custom studios, phone apps, and compatible-brick brands like us. What they actually make — and the price and color range — differ a lot. This guide walks through all four routes so you can tell which kind of "customization" you actually want — including the options that aren't ours.
Route 1: LEGO® official — Mosaic Maker portraits
LEGO has its own "photo into mosaic" service: LEGO® Mosaic Maker. Take a photo, the system turns it into a mosaic portrait, and you build it from a set.
A few real limits to know:
- Mostly black-and-white grayscale — it's designed as a single-tone portrait style, not full-color reproduction. If you want a pet's fur, a sunset gradient, or skin-tone detail, think about this first.
- The digital version needs a LEGO account for the full experience.
- Limited availability in Taiwan: the related set (40179) mostly circulates via proxy buyers or auction channels, and the in-person snapshot-booth experience depends on authorized-store events.
Who it's for: LEGO fans who like the black-and-white portrait look and want the official, genuine experience.
Route 2: Custom minifig / scene studios
Taiwan has plenty of studios making "custom LEGO-style figures" — you provide a photo and they build a mini version of you, a wedding scene, an office scene. Most quote and communicate one-on-one over LINE.
Who it's for: people who want a "3D little figure" rather than a wall piece. Note: mostly quote-based, with a wide price range and lead times that depend on the studio's schedule. Before ordering, clarify the finished-piece photos, parts sourcing, and delivery time.
Route 3: AI filters / image tools (digital only)
Search "photo LEGO" and you'll find lots of AI tools that turn a photo into a LEGO-style image. Free, fun, output in 30 seconds — but the result is a digital image file, not a physical piece.
Who it's for: memes, social avatars, pure fun. Not for: anyone who wants a gift they can hold in their hands.
Route 4: Compatible-brick "photo brick art" — full color, physical, done online

The fourth route is what we do: turning your photo into a full-color brick wall piece. BrickNet uses AI to map your photo pixel by pixel onto 40+ brick colors — skin tone, gradients, and fur are all preserved, which the grayscale routes can't do.
The whole process is online: upload a photo to preview several designs, choose 40cm or 50cm, then receive color-sorted bricks, a baseplate, and numbered instructions. Assembly is an optional add-on. From NT$2,500, with free shipping in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Who it's for: people who want to turn their own photo into a full-color physical piece — as a gift or wall art.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: For a "color" photo mosaic, which route should I pick? A: The official Mosaic Maker is mostly grayscale; for full-color reproduction (pet fur, family skin tones, scenery gradients), compatible-brick photo brick art is currently the most direct option in Taiwan. You can upload a photo for a free preview before deciding.
Q: Which route should I choose for a 3D figure or scene? A: Use a custom studio that quotes projects individually. BrickNet photo brick art is a flat wall piece, not a 3D minifigure or miniature scene.
Q: Is it hard to build myself? A: The kit comes with color-sorted bricks and numbered instructions — just place them as numbered. Prefer not to build? Add the assembly service.
